Good video but truly poor stereo mics.
June 17, 2017
Good video but truly poor mics. Released in 2012, this design is already a few years old (which when it comes to buying tech annoys me on principal), but I guess why change what isn't broken as there's still no real competition in the 1080p webcam space. The auto focus lens works well, the field of view is wider than most webcams, and the low light capabilities are on par with what I'd expect from a $100 camera (good lighting still makes a huge difference, but it works better than most cheap webcams in dim light). On the other hand, the "high quality dual mic for stereo audio with automatic noise reduction" are the worst I've heard in years on any product at any price. I really couldn't believe how bad these were, especially at this premium price point. The sound is only passable close up (if you were say using it on a laptop), but anything past two feet away and it's worse than objectionable. I tried using it in my living room from 5-6 feet away and I got nothing but complaints when making calls on Skype. Fortunately, I intended to use a dedicated mic anyways, so this wasn't a serious problem for me. For the right price, this circa 2012 webcam has a versatile and competent camera, just bank on needing a communications headset or usb mic for commensurate audio quality.
